The Follow up - Oh the Dj license... Featured

The Dj license debacle has been trending through media for the last 3 weeks or so, last week I authored and article for this blog with the opinion derived from us asking SAMRO some questions regarding their take on the license, which tended to create more of a confusion based on the point that Dj’s paying for a license and the playing in a licensed venue still places forward the question of the double dipping factor where it reflects double payment for a dj performing to public once through the venue license and then again through this requested DJ License that SAMRO claims to be insisting that every DJ has , otherwise perceiving it as law to enforce a dj to take on this license, and how the distribution of these license get to the owners of the music

What IS this!!! DJ License ? Featured

"Nothing in the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity."
Martin Luther King, Jr.

The issue of a Dj license has been a buzz now on social networks for the couple of days here in South Africa with many comparing it to the Etoll scandal to swindle money from Dj’s pockets , the truth of the matter is that this License that people are discussing has been around for more than a decade, hell it’s been a part of the teaching module within the "Multi-Racial Records UMI Dj course” which is taught in our urban music institute since the instute’s inception eleven years ago , It's just that people have been plane ignorant to the fact that it exists much like majority of South Africans are ignorant to their traffic fines until they get caught.

What's the Key Dj tip

Extracted from the Multi-Racial UMI Advance Dj course...

Mixing in musical key/Harmonic Mixing is something that lots of DJs vaguely know they ought to have a go at. Top DJs mention mixing in key, and many commercial mix CDs use key mixing. Pioneer releases PLX 1000 Turntable Featured

Earlier this year we dropped a hint that Pioneer Dj was looking at resurgent of the vinyl , well the wait is over and there is a new vinyl playboy in town its called the "PLX 1000" its finally released and based on the feedback from the usaul scratch dj's top heads in the states it seems like it has taken the ol faithful "SL1200 MKII" and just repackaged it into the "PLX 1000" seeing as technics scrapped the SL1200 line a couple of years ago the , Pioneer seem to have taken the oppertunity to jump in and try an fill avoid that many of us Vinyl Junkies have been missing and in the same space trying to recoup new interest from those who never got the chance to delve into the vinyl realm, hopefully this is a swing towards bringing in the new bloods into picking up the vinyl, an era that built individualism that seems to be lost in the digital realm.

New Age Djing - Live Prodcution Featured

Many have been anticipating the next move and direction the deejay world will flow to, its been a big progression since the humble Turntable came to be the Dj's main tool of performance back in the 70's, through to the 90's evolving into the CDJ and in the late 2000's going in to a full digital realm with the advent of DVS programs such as Serato & Traktor, through to now CDJ's supporting USB... I myself foresee the future of Djing turning into a scale of one producing new sounds and remixes live in front of an audience, Myself running a scratch control system with Traktor Scratch decided to delve into the the live production realm running Maschine behind the Traktor platform and recreating tracks in to my own cuts with my own signature live in front of my audience, whilst still practical , this setup can be quite demanding on the system.
