Fresh from NAMM Pioneer announces its latest controller with a pretty similar look to its predecessors but apparently packed with alot more punch .
Introducing the ultimate professional four-channel controller for Serato DJ: the bigger, brighter DDJ-SZ. The DDJ-SZ is the first Pioneer controller to closely match the CDJ-2000NXS set-up for the most intuitive, physical scratch performances yet. Features include full-sized jog wheels inherited from the CDJ-2000NXS, illuminated cue point markers, large Performance Pads with customisable multi-coloured Hot Cue LEDs, and two USB sound cards for ultra-smooth DJ handovers.
The DDJ-SZ takes all the best features of its stable mate the DDJ-SX and enhances them to deliver the best live performance experience available. It is the only controller with an On Jog Display – which introduces a unique digital sticker illumination with cue point countdown and track playback position – so DJs can perform precision scratches without looking at their laptop screen. Plus the full-sized jog wheels feature Jog Feeling Adjust, brake speed, and conductive technology for a lighter, smoother faster response.
DJs can finger-drum with confidence thanks to the larger, velocity-sensitive Performance Pads, which give instant access to quantized Hot Cues, Slicer, Roll and Sampler. The multi – coloured LEDs show which mode is in play and will match cue point colours that DJs have pre-set in Serato DJ.
The DDJ-SZ has DVS control and more than holds its own as a stand-alone mixer, with four mixer channels and two dedicated MIC channels. DJs can instantly trigger four Sound Colour FX – which can also be applied to the sampler, MICs and Master channel – and manipulate them with a high/low pass filter on each channel. Further hands-on controls include Oscillator FX, Slip Mode and Reverse, and dedicated plug-and-play access to all Serato DJ’s exciting features.
The most elegant solution for the modern scratch DJ, the DDJ-SZ should be part of any professional set-up.
The DDJ-SZ is available from March at an SRP of EUR 1,999/GBP 1,749, including VAT. See the DDJ-SZ here http://pioneerdj.com/english/products/controller/ddj-sz.html
KEY FEATURES OF THE DDJ-SZ
1. Spacious layout with large controls for scratch performance perfection
Full-sized jog wheels with digital sticker and cue countdown
The DDJ-SZ is the first controller to inherit 206-mm jog wheels from the flagship CDJ-2000NXS to make it the best digital controller for scratch DJs. Features include:
- On Jog Display: white backlit track playback position
- Digital cue point marker: illumination accurately counts down cue points
- Jog illumination: LED ring shows which deck is in play in Blue or White
- Jog Feeling Adjust: dedicated dials for jog wheel tension control and brake speed to create longer or shorter backspins and brake effects.
- Enhanced operation: conductive technology for smoother, faster performance
Performance Pads with multi-coloured cue point LEDs
The club-standard 30mm x 30mm Performance Pads are the largest in Pioneer DJ’sSerato controller range, enabling a greater level of control and physicality. DJs can instantly trigger Quantized Hot Cues, Roll, Slicer and Sampler, or hit Shift to save and activate Cue and Slicer Loops – while Velocity Mode lets them control the sample volume with the amount of pressure they apply. The multi-coloured backlit LEDs give a visual reference to which modes are in play, and will reflect cue points that DJs have pre-set in Serato DJ.
PIONEER EXCLUSIVE: magnetic crossfader for enhanced operability and durabilityThe DDJ-SZ is equipped with Pioneer’s own magnetic crossfader for smooth, steady control. Two metal shafts support the fader knobs, while the contact-free magnetic system is designed to last for millions of performances. The operational load, fader curve and cut lag can be adjusted to suit the DJ’s preference.
2. Two USB sound cards for smooth DJ handovers
Two sound cards and USB ports enable two computers to be connected at the same time. A dedicated A/B button on each side of the controller enables DJs to split the controller and assign each half between the two USB ports for seamless DJ handovers with no more awkward gaps in the music.
3. Supports DVS control and can be used as a stand-alone mixer
The four external inputs allow DJs to connect CDJs and turntables and use the DDJ-SZ as a stand-alone four-channel mixer. In addition, the unit has two dedicated MIC inputs with Hi/Low EQ, enabling voice MCing without sacrificing mixer channels. Plus two Master Out ports (balanced and RCA) and one balanced Booth Out port mean DJs can connect to a variety of PA set-ups.
The DDJ-SZ is DVS-ready, so DJs can connect CDJs/turntables to the DDJ-SZ and use a timecode CD/vinyl to control Serato directly through the mixer – there’s no need for an external sound card.
4. High-quality FX and filters on every channel, including MICs and sampler
DJs can enjoy even more creative freedom thanks to a high/low pass filter on every channel, including the two MIC channels and sampler, plus Master channel, while each effect can be fine-tuned using the large rotary parameter dial. High-quality FX include the popular Sound Colour FX – Pitch, Echo, Jet and Filter – while the new Oscillator adds Noise, Siren, Cymbal and Horn samples.
5. Slip Mode for precision scratching
Slip Mode silently continues track playback during a loop, reverse or scratch, and brings the music back at the right point when the DJ exits the performance. It also adds a further level to the Performance Pads, enabling tricks such as Slip Hot Cue.
6. High-quality audio circuitry delivers a professional sound
The DDJ-SZ inherits high-quality audio circuitry from Pioneer DJ’s pro-DJ equipment, including two built-in 24-bit sound cards, and a precision engineered Wolfson DAC providing a signal-to-noise ratio of 111 dB on the Master Out to ensure incredibly pure sound reproduction.
7. Professional build quality with a stylish finish to suit any environment
The top plate and jog wheels are built with an aluminium finish that looks great and yet is tough enough to withstand the rigours of frequent use. Plus Pioneer DJ’s P-LOCK Fader Caps are impossible to pull off in the heat of a mix.
8. Other features
Meters next to the Master and every channel mean DJs are always aware of input and output levels, while the peak limiter prevents distortion from the Master Out – even at very high outputs.
- Needle Search: touch strip for intuitive, fast searches
- MIDI compatible: control any DJ software
